I fired up Wikipedia to check something and they had a photo of the Su-30 on the homepage. Naturally I went to the article on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and started looking through the pictures and saw this one. It is an amazing picture, but is it real?

The SU-30 is just a strangely proportioned plane and the pilot is just really, really good at flying it.

Apparently not a shop, but that’s no way a meter from the ground - more like double that. Still fucking impressive flying.

The pilot really wanted a car. Cars are expensive in red countries, but military billets are handed out like candy. Got his wings and now he drives the plane like the car he dreams of.

I did some very crude measuring of the photo on my screen. It is just about 1m off the ground. The Su-30 is ~22m long and on the screen it is just about 197mm. It is difficult to judge exactly where the plane is above the runway, but my best guess measuring from the white line to the bottom of the lower extension on the vertical stabilizer is ~10mm. That puts the plane about 1.1m off the ground.

I was just eyeing it. Look at the size of the pilot.

Kinja'd!!!

It only looks oddly proportioned because the Varitech gear forces some compromises ...
